What is Verified by VISA?

Verified by VISA is a free service of secure online shopping  using VISA cards. When making a purchase, you confirm your identity to the Bank by your personal password – similar to using a PIN at an ATM. The password entering and verification is conducted solely between you and the Bank and the online merchant does not have access to the data exchanged. In that way, only you can use the card at the online merchants that support payment via Verified by VISA service. A personal message that you yourself entered will appear on the screen so that you can be sure that you are communicating with the Bank.

How does Verified by VISA service work?

Verified by VISA service is only offered at the online merchants participating in Verified by VISA programme. The purchase is performed similarly as at regular online merchants, except that, in the case of Verified by VISA merchants, holder identity check is performed when confirming the purchase.

The purchase procedure is as follows:

  • Select the goods and services that you wish to purchase and go to the checkout page (link).
  • Enter the required data (including the card number) and, when you click on the payment confirmation button, the online store connects automatically with the Bank in order to check whether the card is activated for the use of Verified by VISA service. 
  • If it is, a window will appear on your screen with the basic transaction data, your identification data and the password entry request.
  • Check if the data displayed are correct (transaction amount, the last four digits on the card and personal messages)
  • Enter your password and confirm the amount.
  • If the password is correct, the Bank will confirm your authenticity to the merchant.
  • The merchant sends an inquiry to the Bank about the available funds in the account and the card validity.
  • The Bank approves the transaction.

How can I activate Verified by VISA service?

Activation of Verified by VISA service is made during the first purchase at an online merchant that supports this service.
Activation procedure is as follows:

  • Select the goods and services that you wish to buy and go to the checkout page (link).
  • Enter the required data (including the card number) and, when you click on the payment confirmation button, the online store connects automatically with the Bank in order to check whether the card is activated for the use of Verified by VISA service.
  • If it is not activated, a window will appear on your screen with an offer to activate the service.
  • Accept the continuation of activation, enter the requested data and password (twice, for verification).
  • The Bank checks if the data entered are correct and, if everything is in order, informs you of successful activation.
  • The Bank confirms your authenticity to the merchant.
  • The merchant sends an inquiry to the Bank about the available funds in the account and the card validity.
  • The Bank approves the transaction.

When purchasing on the websites having Verified by Visa logo, activation can be rejected 3 times. If you reject the third call to register the card for the use of this service, the payment will be made but the card will be blocked for secure online purchases. This will not affect the use of the card at regular POS terminals at stores and ATMs, as well as on the websites not having Verified by Visa logo displayed. In order to be able to shop again on secure websites (those having the abovementioned logo displayed) and in order to be offered again to register for the use of this service, please send an e-mail to retail.cards@erstebank.rs with the following content:

I request the unblocking of the card no. XXXX (enter the last 4 digits of the card number here – the 16-digit number on the front of the card) linked to individual account no. 340-XXXXXXXX-XX (enter the account number here) for secure online payments. The card is blocked because the registration was rejected 3 times. My personal ID number is: XXXXXXXXXXXXX (specify your personal ID number here).
